Hoarding ‘Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes’.
Matthew 6 verse 34 (TM) How many times does God have to talk to you about something before you finally get what He is trying to say to you? Well I cannot declare myself as the most obedient person on earth as God has had to do this on several occasions.
I was doing my weekly shopping and I noticed that the shower gel we use as a family was still on special after several weeks (really on special) so I lunged myself across the aisle to get what would be my eighth bottle when I heard a voice say ‘leave it, you are not leaving room in your life for God to show He will always provide’. Immediately I walked away laughing because time and time again He has had to remind me of things similar to this.
We really underestimate who God is, we take more than our fair share of things sometimes; not leaving enough for everyone to enjoy. We fear that there will never be another chance to stock up like this one; not knowing that God promises that He would give us what we need daily. When we worry about provisions for tomorrow we are taking the situation out of God’s hands.
We look back at so many bible characters and watch God’s divine provision in their lives. People like the widow of Zarephat (1 Kings 17) the children of Israel journeying through the wilderness (Exodus 16) and the list goes on. God made marvelous provision for them. Do you not believe He can do the same for you?
Let’s begin to really trust God for the things we have need for. He promises that He would supply all our needs (Philippians 4 verse 19). He owns everything, and will always make sure we have enough; (the danger we run into is that we always want more than enough). This may drum up the argument of people in other countries who are perishing from the lack of basic things like water and food. Maybe we are not releasing enough to help them; we just need to look in our cupboards and bins.
Let’s not hoard things we have little need of; believing that we will not have enough for tomorrow. He is an amazing provider; allow him to do his job.
